Two Ribbon Cuttings, two Rides, and two picnics in two days in May. It was an exciting week celebrating the long-awaited Gobblers Lodge Ribbon Cutting, Ride and picnic at Hickory Bluff Preserve on May 20 and the DeLeon Springs Ribbon Cutting, Ride and picnic at DeLeon Springs State Park.
It was a week of excitment and celebrations - two new trail sections of the St Johns River-to-Sea Loop are officially open, the trail community is stronger than ever with great support from FDOT, Volusia County, Florida State Parks, and other counties, cities, organizations, businesses and people around the Loop, and we all survived to tell the story... The work started about May 10 when the two Ribbon Cuttings were announced in the same week. It was a mad scramble esepcially with many loyal volunteers out of town or otherwise unavailable. The event began May 20 with the Gobblers Lodge and May 22 with DeLeon Springs Ribbons Cuttings, Rides and Picnics.
Special thanks to Volusia County for the use of Hickory Bluff Preserve and to Florida State Parks for DeLeon Springs State Park.
And to Noah Hertz of the Beacon for his great coverage of trails.
